FOLKVANG occupy the first half of the split, with four tracks in total. The first three tracks are very atmospheric, melancholic mid-tempo Black Metal that brings to mind bands such as BURZUM, DRUDKH, BRANIKALD (circa "BlikAvKald") & FOREST (Circa "Foredooming the Hope for Eternity"). It comes as no suprize that FOLKVANG may be compared with such a superb grouping of bands, as the Ancient Nation label is associated with none other than the Pagan Front who are a magnet for perfection. FOLKVANG are another example of True Aryan Black Metal continuing the Traditions of Old. The riffing is similar to BURZUM (circa "Filosofem") though FOLKVANG have less distortion & though the composition are hypnotic, they are slightly more rustic in their approach combined with samples from nature.The bass is minimalist & the drums fairly low in the mix, adding to the generally sorowful & nostaligc atmosphere.The fourth track presented by FOLKVANG is in a form of a STURM (Blr) cover of "Aryjski Sturm". Now i have no previous exprience of STURM but i can say that hte tracks forms a complete contrast to the contrast to the songs writen by FOLKVANG. It is a fast, melodic, punky track with very cool reverberated vocals thus ending the FOLKVANG side of the split in the spirit of True Aryan Defiance & belligerency. WODENSTHRONE are a Heathen Black Metal band hailing from British shores. Their sound fits well with Folkvang & its easy to see why the two bands released a Split album as they are both of the same mind and also maintain stellar quality throughout. However WODENSTHRONE are rawer & more primitive in their approach, though semi-melodic & never losing that underlying sense of sorrow and loss.
